Shiny at IFA 2008: LG to join the UMPC bandwagon with the Netbook X110
LG are joining the UMPC race with a little laptop all of their own-some. They seem to be selling it on the fact that it’s available in a variety of colours (pink, black and white) but it actually has pretty decent specs as well. It’s equipped with WLAN 802.11 and Ethernet for quick connections and has an 80GB hard drive, which isn’t bad for such a small computer. When you compare this, with its 10 inch screen and full size keyboard to the recently launched Fizzbook, it’s a clear winner, but then they are different markets.
But what makes LG think they can contend with the big boys of UMPC world? Since the race is still going strong no one has established a winner yet, and though the Eee PC may lead the way for budget models, the business user would like something with a little more memory.
Advent’s a contender at the moment, as is Lenovo, but LG could pip them to the post with user friendly tariffs and an attractive amount of monthly downloads.
It’s not impossible, especially as they’ve teamed up with Phones 4 U to stock the Netbooks (in pink and white), so you can hopefully expect market friendly monthly priceplans. The netbook has an integrated GPS receiver and weighs in at 1.19kg, which is 2.7g heavier than the Eee PC and 0.5g heavier than the Advent.
Hmm, that’s not a good start is it? We have no info on prices as yet, but that will make all the difference methinks. I’ll keep you posted.

You’re having a laugh aren’t you? 2.7g and 0.5g heavier when the things weigh over 1Kg. Hardly worth a mention.
