Samsung to make the internet on your TV a reality
The internet’s been on one hell of a journey. It’s gone from PCs to laptops, to mobile phones and now directly to your television set. And we’ve got Samsung and Yahoo to thank for this great step forward in the online world. Although they’re saving the official announcement for IFA this week, it’s thanks to this partnership that we’ll have access to an integrated internet access service on our TVs (Samsung TVs of course).
The Widget Channel – its official name – will be powered by Yahoo Widget Engine, allowing you to sit back on your sofa like a lazy couch potato, and enjoy small internet applications such as news and weather, all from your remote control. Content will be accessible through an integrated Ethernet port or a Samsung wireless adaptor.
The Shiny team will be at IFA in Berlin this week, so keep a look out for updates. There’s definitely more to come.
