The Asus AiGuru SV1 lets you make video calls, but costs you £220!
Now we all now Skype is a great cheap way to stay in touch with our mates abroad, but nothing beats a face to face convo, so we’re now privy to an all singing all dancing portable Videophone from Asus. It has a 7 inch screen to let you chat to your mates with ease and has a resolution of 640×480 pixels. Simply plug it into an Ethernet cord or sync it with Wi Fi and you’re good to go. But you have to pay £220 for this pleasure. Yup.
If this amount was halved it would still be verging on the overpriced, but a sum this high could get you a nice little netbook, so what does this really offer the everyday user? Um.. Well if you’re lacking a computer it might be convenient to tote this around, but seeing as a webcam is a pretty cheap piece of kit, it’s you who’ll be out of pocket. I’m sure you get a great on screen picture, and the fact that it can run on batteries is a nice touch, but still, £219? For that amount of money I’d really want something more than just a matte gray videophone. Had they incorporated a touchscreen or even a external keypad to allow you to message that would be great, but as it is I’m not that sold. Fail.
