Chandler's Farewell My Lovely coming to the DS!
Detective fiction seems like the logical companion to computer games, seeing as the stories are very plot driven with regular action, puzzles to unlock and come to a fulfilling end if you follow the twists correctly. Hence, it seems strange that up till now there seems to have been very little collaboration in the gaming sphere.
Sure, we have books-turned-into-films-turned-into-games (Harry Potter/ Terry Pratchett’s Discworld) but I definitely feel there’s room for more intelligent, story driven games, and using classic detective noir would be a great choice.
Well Chandler fans will be beaming widely at the news that Farewell my Lovely is coming to the DS (personally I’d have gone for The Big Sleep).
It will be launched in Japan in early 2010 by the Furyu company and will star Philip Marlowe, our favourite hard boiled king. It’s not a direct conversion though, as the game follows the Choose your own Adventure line of questing, with various options available at every stage.
I’m excited, I just hope they’ve picked up the Hammett license as well, so we could hopefully see a Sam Spade game in the works at a later date…
