Twitter Awards launch – the Golden Twits
So – you know the way people who have never tried Twitter like to repetitively assert that it is a waste of time and full of people saying short and useless things?
Hm? I’m sure you’ve heard a few comments along those lines.
Of course with close on 18m users, Twitter is not short of fans or champions, but a Media and Marketing magazine called The Drum is now charging to defend Twitter as well, with an awards scheme set up to showcase the most insightful Twitterers and the best tweets. It’s called the Golden Twits Awards.
I’m behind the ethos of the awards – rewarding those great Tweeters who make the whole affair more fun, but the PR around it is ever so slightly patronising…
The publisher of The Drum magazine, Gordon Young said, “The awards will recognise the fact that, despite the character limit, Twitter is being used by people in increasingly sophisticated ways.”
You don’t say.
Anyway…entry is free and not difficult: provide a link to your Twitter stream and give a few short (140 character) statements on why you tweet, why you think you deserve an award, and what you think you have achieved by tweeting.
You get a finger buffet in November if you’re nominated – and if that’s not a good reason to go for it, I don’t know what is. Winners of course can lay claim to the title of Golden Twit and there are multiple categories, which increases your chances.
Entry is free and the application form is here. The entry deadline is October 22.

I did download the Instagram application on my IPhone, I used it only once and I don’t think I’ll use it again. Sadly, it’s pretty useless App to be worth a Billion dollar (with a zero Co. profit), I can see MapQuest worth that match but not for something like this. No wonder it’s free…I know there is more to it behind closed doors than just simply changing the color of your picture, and we’ll find out soon enough what that is all about.By the way it’s been deleted because it’s something I definitely won’t use again and can live without. If Facebook has some money to throw around for god sake give it to charity instead but not like this…Cheers!
