Pentax compact camera the Optio RZ1000 is the size of a credit card
They really mean compact this time: Pentax’s colourful Optio RS1000 – also known as the Chamelon – is genuinely the size of a credit card.
Where credit cards clock up as 85.60 × 53.98 mm, the Chamelon is just a shave larger at 92mm wide by 56mm high. Okay, it’s also a bit thicker than a card with a depth of 20.5mm, but this is still one seriously compact offering.
As you might expect with the new competition from mobile phone cameras, camera makers like Pentax need to bump the specs on their products right up. So this packs a lot into a very slender package: high resolution images produced by approximately 14 megapixels, a 3 inch LCD monitor, 4x optical zoom lens, HD video function and a simple, user-friendly operation.
The other unique selling point of this little camera is that you can customise the case with your own “skin”. Using their website you can print out a design of your choice on a template and slide it between the body and the transparent front panel. That’s why it’s called the Chamelon (get it?).
Available in a black or white base colour, the PENTAX Optio RS1000 will be available to purchase in the UK in October 2010, selling for approx £119.99.
