VIDEO INTERVIEW: Designer on how pioneering site Requiem for a Dream mimics drug addiction
Unearthed in the Archaeology of the Web exhibition is a gem from 2000 made to promote the 2001 film ‘Requiem for a Dream’.
We talked to designer Alexandra from the agency High Res. The designers wanted to create a website that mimicked the effects drug addiction and the result is still avant-garde
Playing with space and time, and tracing the stories for the 4 main characters in Darren Aronofsky’s film, it sits half way between a website and short film and uses stuff like html on the front-end of the site to give the effects of weird deconstruction.
NB: the camera couldn’t cope with the old Mac screen so the video flickers – but you can get the gist.
