You can expect to see Samsung-sponsored selfies galore during the World Cup
Expect to see a job-lot of selfies coming from the England World Cup squad in the summer, as Samsung has signed a deal with the English Football Association to be the official consumer electronics and smartphone supplier to the England team.
This means that all the players, and the staff will be given Samsung gadgets, including the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone, and will most definitely be showing them off from 12 June, when the World Cup begins.
Seeing as Samsung has been one of the major brands in the ‘sponsored’ selfie debate, with Ellen Degeneres’ Oscars selfie that crashed Twitter, and David Ortiz’s shot with Barack Obama taken at Nelson Mandela’s funeral thought to have stemmed from sponsorship, we’re very excited at the prospect of seeing Steven Gerard and Frank Lampard in their dressing room – and obviously views of Brazil too.
With many of the players usually seen wearing Beats headphones, they can definitely expect to have to get rid of them, as Samsung’s biggest rival, Apple, has put in a $3.2 billion bid for Beats Electronics.
