This is the first Windows Phone with ‘Windows’ branding
We’ve heard the rumours that Microsoft is ditching the Windows Phone brand in favour of something simpler, and while we saw a so-called ‘Microsoft’ branded phone last week this is our first glimpse and a ‘Windows’ branded phone.
The pictures have appeared thanks to an unlinked microsite of Microsoft’s official website, which displays text informing readers that the information is confidential and only for use internally. It also includes some specs about the phone, namely that it’s called the GoFone GF47W, it has a 4.7-inch display, and will be running Windows Phone 8.1.
Judging from the state of the page, it looks as though the phone is ready to be announced officially. It could also be that since Microsoft hasn’t officially announced any changes in branding this is the phone that kicks off the promise of an integrated Windows brand.
At the very least it could be that Microsoft will announce a merger of Windows Phone and Windows RT, which would make some sort of sense in the grand scheme of things. But, until Microsoft makes any official announcements, that’s all speculation.
