The Oppo R5 will be available on the 20th February, pre-orders open now
The iPhone is the clear king of the smartphone world, and there are an awful lot of contenders out there trying to usurp the throne. The latest to try is the Oppo R5, and Oppo has revealed that it will be available in the UK on the 20th of February and is available for pre-order right now.
It’s hard to deny that the Oppo R5 looks remarkably like the iPhone 6, even going so far as to mimic the protruding rear camera. It’s not an exact clone, though, and the hardware inside is rather nice. It’s got a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear-facing camera, 16GB of storage (sadly no microSD expansion), a 5.2-inch 1080p display, and a 2,000 mAh battery. All that run on Oppo’s ColorOS 2.0, which is based on Android KitKat.
It’s also a mere 4.85 mm thick, more than 2 mm thinner than the iPhone 6. A lot of people have been worried that this might mean the R5 will be prone to bending, like the iPhone 6 Plus, but apparently it has an industry grade metal shell to prevent that from happening. This really is a remarkably thin phone.
If you like the sound of that, and you want some good hardware without having to sell your car, you can head on over to Amazon and pre-order the Oppo R5 for £297.
