12 films to watch on Amazon Prime right now

[nextpage title=”Next”]

For £79 for the year, Amazon Prime Instant Video has so many films and TV shows on offer, with a much wider range of newer movies than Netflix, as well as exclusive to Amazon TV shows, like Transparent and Vikings.

Yes, it’s annoying to have to pay the £79 upfront, rather than paying monthly, but the amount of films on offer looks worth it. It’s such a big catalogue that you can spend hours just searching for something to watch.

We’ve found you our 12 favourite films to watch on Amazon Prime right now, so you don’t have to do all the scouring, and can just sit down and watch something immediately, whether you fancy a thriller or a comedy.

1) Django Unchained

My second favourite Quentin Tarantino movie, other than Pulp Fiction; Django Unchained isn’t for the easily offended, including the n-word over 100 times, and all of the blood. But, then again, it is a Tarantino, so what do you expect? Django Unchained is the story of Django, a freed slave, played by Jamie Foxx, who, with the help of a German bounty hunter, played by the AMAZING Christoph Waltz, sets off to rescue his wife from evil plantation owner Leonardo DiCaprio.

Get_Him_to_the_Greek

2) Get Him To The Greek

A spin-off film of ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, Russell Brand plays Aldous Snow for the second time in Get Him to the Greek, in which Jonah Hill, as a music intern, is hired by P Diddy (who is absolutely hilarious) to accompany Aldous to his concert at LA’s Greek Theatre. Obviously, with Aldous addicted to sex, drugs and drink (sound familiar?), this isn’t as easy a task as it sounds.

3) Source Code

Source Code tells the story of a soldier, played by Jake Gyllenhall, who wakes up in someone else’s body and discovers he’s part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of a commuter train. It’s sort of like Groundhog Day but with more action and only eight minutes rather than 24 hours.

You can watch Source Code here.

Kick-Ass_film_poster
4) Kick-Ass

Kick-Ass is the perfect comedy comic book movie, telling the story of your everyday teenager (Aaron Johnson), who decides he wants to be a superhero, called Kick-Ass. Things get complicated when he meets Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage) and his 11-year-old daughter Hit Girl, played by Chloe Moretz. This film ignited our love for Chloe, due to one particularly sweary scene.

Horrible_Bosses 5) Horrible Bosses

This film shows Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell like you’ve never seen them before, especially Jennifer who completely throws away her typecast image for this movie. Telling the story of three friends who set out to kill their bosses, it may look like your average rubbish comedy, but it really is hilarious.

You can watch Horrible Bosses here.

CrazyStupidLovePoster
6) Crazy Stupid Love

Ryan Gosling + Emma Stone = hottest couple ever, and they’ve also got all of the chemistry. Crazy Stupid Love sees Steve Carrell get divorced from Julianne Moore, and then be taught how to pick up girls with the help of player Gosling, who falls for Stone. It sounds like an average plot line, but the twist will actually surprise you, and has hilarious consequences. Also, Ryan Gosling goes topless in this, so there’s that.

Monsters_Inc

7) Monsters, Inc.

If you’re in the mood for something fun, a Disney Pixar movie is always a good way to go. Monsters, Inc. tells the story of two child-scaring monsters, Mike and Sully, who befriend one of the children they’re supposed to be scaring, Boo. We defy you to not find Boo to be the cutest animated child of all time.

8) Gangster Squad

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone together again, and possibly even hotter than Crazy Stupid Love. This gritty film is set in the ’40s and is really gory right from the start. Telling the story of mobster, Mickey Cohen, who is being taken down by a team of cops.

You can watch Gangster Squad here.

AKnightsTale
9) A Knight’s Tale

This film will make you miss the beauty that was Heath Ledger. Telling the story of a peasant pretending to be a knight, A Knight’s Tale is really funny with a very British sense of humour.

Behind_the_Candelabra_poster
10) Behind the Candelabra

The crazy story of Liberace and his secret boyfriend, Behind the Candelabra is hilarious and emotional at times too. The film is also a testament to how good an actor Matt Damon is, as well as Michael Douglas.

You can watch Behind the Candelabra here.

Slidingdoors
11) Sliding Doors

A really clever idea for a film; Sliding Doors shows how different your life could be if one single moment changed. We see two parallel stories of the same woman living in London, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, whose love life is completely different all due to not catching her usual train in one story, and catching it in the other.

You can watch Sliding Doors here.

Vicky_cristina_barcelona12) Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz may be the hottest trio ever seen in film. It centres around two friends who both become enamoured with the same painter, while on holiday in Spain. His ex-wife then shows up, and things get very complicated.
