Summer-ready beauty: 10 summery nail polishes
Suddenly the sun is out, winter is over, and it’s time to put away your moody blues and deep, dark berry shades of polish in favour of something lighter, brighter and more tan-friendly. To help you pick out your next favourite shade, here are nine great Summer nail polishes plus one brilliant top coat to choose from:
Probably the prettiest of the bunch, Only Fingers And Toes Bubblegum is the girliest peachy shade you surely ever did see, that will look better and better the more sun-kissed you get. It’s part of their SS15 Candyland collection and can be found here for £16.
Rimmel make some of the very best budget polishes available in an impressive range of shades. Pillow Talk is a gorgeous cloudy blue, perfect for anyone who enjoys feminine colours but doesn’t want to go down the traditional pink or purple route. It’s £3.69 here.
Mint is always a great shade for the summer months: it’s pretty, easy-to-wear, a little bit different and it suits most skin colourings. If you fancy a new mint shade to try, how about Boutique’s The Royal Mint – it’s a Sainsbury’s exclusive and costs £5.
If you’re like me and enjoy a bright nail, the Models’ Own Festival collection will be right up your street. My favourite from the edit is the Purple Bandana shade – a bright but wearable purple that’s a perfect summer colour. It’s here for £5.
Next month sees the arrival of the new style Bourjois La Laque polishes, which include 12 very summery shades. I’ve chosen Chair Et Tendre which is a beautiful, pale rose shade that leans quite nude, making it ideal for work or anyone who likes a chic and clean nail finish. It’ll be £6.49.
The Bobbi Brown Sandy Nudes collection contains two nude polishes, the yellow-based Nude (right) or the milkier Naked. My personal favourite is Naked, but either shade works well as a great nude if the aforementioned Bourjois shade is too pink for you. These will be £11 when they launch next month.
For something a little bit different, Morgan Taylor has a gorgeous blue and silver duochrome that forms part of the Cinderella collection, called Best Ball Gown Ever. I love a polish that changes colour depending on how the light hits it and this is a great example of how lovely that can look. It’s £9.95 here.
I’ve saved what I feel is the best colour ’til last, which is the Mavala Garden Party collection, an edit of six shades consisting of traditional Summer colours. If you like bright pinks, bluey lilacs and all things floral, you’ll go crazy for any of the Garden Party shades. Above is Petunia, the pinkest of the bunch, which is £4.25 here.
Finally, if you don’t fancy investing in some new Summer colours but instead want to add a bit of a Summery feel to your existing colour collection without spending a fortune, the Daisy Days topcoat from BD Trade Secrets might just be the product for you. It’s a clear topcoat that contains both confetti and daisies that you can use over any polish. It’s a bargain at £3.99 here.
