Honor unveils latest high-end smart phone, the View 20

At a preview event in London’s Soho Square today, ShinyShiny took a glimpse at Honor’s latest high-end smartphone, the View 20.

Due to be officially launched for European markets in Paris on January 22nd, it is expected to retail for well under £500 (the Chinese price starts at around £350). Three colours will be available in the UK: phantom blue, midnight black and sapphire blue. There will also be two main variants, a 6GB model with 128GB of storage and an 8GB model with 256GB of storage.

At 6.4 inches, screen size is fairly large and very widescreen (19.25:9 to be precise). What’s more screen to body ratio is an impressive 91.8% because of the ‘notchless’ design or what some people are calling the hole punch display (as there is a hole for the 25MP front facing camera). Indeed photography seems to be a key focus of the View 20 with a 48MP rear camera and loads of AI photography options – 60 scenarios across 1500 categories. Also on board is Semantic Image Segmentation so the camera’s AI can identify different elements within the picture and act accordingly, ie the sky and someone’s face.

Although reasonably slim (just 8.1mm thick), first impressions are that the phone is quite hefty. That’s probably because of the large 4000 mAh battery which can charge up to 55% in 30 minutes. Boasting a Kirin 980 processor, which promises a 75% improvement on CPU performance, the View 20 also offers a number of other features including a whole host of AI features such as an AI translator and AI video editor for eliminating shake when filming. Also included is Honor’s bespoke Voice Assistant (although you can obviously use Google Assistant if you prefer).

Although we haven’t had chance to fully review the View 20 yet you can see our first impressions video on YouTube below. Further details – including price – will be announced on January 22nd.
