The best series coming out this year you really should watch

Every year, the TV world treats us to a bevvy of incredible series. And this time around, it’s no different. But which are the most likely to get you feeling good? Take a look at the following hand-picked upcoming shows. 

The Great British Bake Off

Yes, that’s right: The Great British Bake Off is back for a tenth season at the end of August, coinciding almost perfectly with the start of the new academic year. If you’re not looking forward to the thought of returning to education – or you feel sorry for your children who are – then the Great British Bake Off is the perfect series to put a spring back in your step. 

Bake Off will air on Channel 4 from the end of August and will see the return of Paul Hollywood but not Mary Berry and the rest of the gang who remain loyal to the BBC. 

The premise of the show remains the same: baking amateurs will compete against each other to impress the judges. Contestants will be eliminated from the show every week, with the winner being crowned Bake Off Champion at the end of the series.

Lip Sync Battle

The idea behind Lip Sync Battle is simple: pit two celebrities against each other on stage to see which comes out on top while lip-syncing to well-known musical numbers. The combination of hapless stars, judges and audience participation make this a feel-good champ. The show starts on 4th September and will air on UK Comedy Central.

The Family Brain Games

Have you ever wondered how the most intelligent families in Britain tick? If so, you’ll love The Family Brain Games. The series, hosted by Mock The Week’s Dara O Briain, will pit eight of the country’s most intelligent families against each other in a series of original games designed to test their wits. The show will try to go beyond traditional measures of intelligence, such as IQ, and examine the contestants’ memory, verbal reasoning and listening skills. By the end of the series, we should have a good idea who has the right to call themselves the smartest family in the country.

Impractical Jokers

If it’s a giggle you want, then Impractical Jokers might be right up your street. The hidden camera show starring Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn and Sal Vulcano, will chronicle grown men conducting pranks and stunts for the pleasure of the viewing public. You can catch the upcoming series of Impractical Jokers from 19th August on BBC Three.

Disenchantment

If you love the Simpsons and Futurama, then you’re in for a treat starting on 20th September this year. Matt Groening is back, and this time with a new animated series: Disenchantment. 

Disenchantment will follow the adventures of medieval princess Bean and her somewhat aggressive companion Elfo. The series is set in the magical yet somewhat decrepit kingdom of Dreamland, and its sole purpose appears to be to put a smile on your face. 

Groening, who loved the Simpsons Halloween specials, wants to recreate the magic of those episodes in a fantasy setting.
